Quad & Blade Vert Champs New Zealand

From February 22-23, 2025, New Zealand’s largest vert ramp at Mt Maunganui’s Blake Park will be the center of the fifth annual Quad and Blade Vert Champs. It is one of the few vert events for roller skating that has been taking place continuously for a few years and aims to inspire the next generation for the discipline.

Vert lovers, if you’re looking to compete in a vert contest in 2025 and have New Zealand on your bucket list, here’s the deal:

On February 22 and 23 Quad & Blade Vert Champs will take place at the Blake Park Vert Ramp in Mount Maunganui (Tauranga). It is a beautiful 4.36m high and 14.4m wide (for our US friends 14.3 ft high and 47,2 ft wide). Next to the contest, juniors and adults as well as an Invitational, the event also encourages community participation through coaching workshops run over the Vert Champs weekend.

The event was initiated by Ivy (@ivyknivey1) who discovered vert skating for herself in 2019. She’s the creator of Let’s Roll Coaching and was teaching kids to ramp skate at the time. “I felt the need for a roller-skating competition. I also thought we need a competition for both, adults and kids, to showcase their skills. Bringing together people from all over to inspire, learn from each other and level up by testing ourselves against other skaters,” she says.

2025 will be the event’s fifth anniversary and to mark the occasion they have invited the top vert skaters from around the globe in quad skating especially to showcase and inspire with their mad skills on vert.

In case you can’t make it: Saturday, Feb 22nd, 10-3pm, and will be live streamed on the Let’s Roll Coaching feed.

Ivy would like to see the event evolve through the continuation of this competition as an annual event. It should encourage youths to have a go, while also being the highest standard for top skaters from around the world to make their mark in vert skating. “By testing themselves at this competition, learning, inspiring others and pushing themselves to be crowned the Vert Champion,” Ivy explains.
